This course examines the development of concepts of freedom in relation to the experience of enslavement. The history of ancient Greece and Rome will be discussed in this regard, but the focus is on anti-slavery struggles in the forging of freedom in the modern world. Prerequisites: One 2000-level Political Science course.

No examinations or tests collectively worth more than 20% of the final grade in a course will be given during the final 14 calendar days of classes in a term.
