Introduces students to medical anthropology through specific examples of the interrelationship between microbes and people. Students will explore how and why anthropologists study infectious diseases, how concepts such as risk are constructed, how human activities and ideas lead to the spread of disease, and various ways in which political and economic practices are implicated in disease transmission.

No examinations or tests collectively worth more than 20% of the final grade in a course will be given during the final 14 calendar days of classes in a term.
