Provides an opportunity for students to carry out a piece of independent research and to write a thesis under the supervision of a faculty member. The Student selects a research issue and formulates related research questions; sets the issue and research question within a theoretical context; proposes a methodology, collects data, analyses the data and explains how it relates to the theoretical context suggested and finally arrives at a conclusion. Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed 84 credits. Students must have a minimum cumulative major GPA of 6.0. Note: Required by Sociology Specialized Honours students only. Other Sociology majors in the Honours program who meet the prerequisites may enrol in this course to fulfill upper level (4000-level) requirements.

- 20% Rule
No examinations or tests collectively worth more than 20% of the final grade in a course will be given during the final 14 calendar days of classes in a term.
