Introduces students to issues of importance within social science, such as human culture and socialization, consumerism, mass media, self and society, social psychology, social control, race and colonialism, the environment and globalization. The main course themes are the social construction of reality, the power dynamics that shape society, and the social justice perspective. Note: This is an approved LA&PS General Education course: Social Science Course credit exclusions: AP/HREQ 2400 6.00 (prior to Fall 2011), AP/SOSC 1000 9.00, AP/ SOSC 1009 9.00. PRIOR TO FALL 2009: Course credit exclusions: AS/SOSC 1000 9.00, AS/SOSC 1009 9.00, AK/SOSC 2400 6.00.
