This course explores the historical roots of corrections and alternative forms of justice. Topics include various philosophies of punishment and social control, as well as the influences that have helped to determine penal policies and practices, particularly in Canada. Prerequisite: AP/CRIM/SOSC 1650 9.00 (or equivalent), with a grade of at least B (6.00). Course credit exclusions: AP/CRIM/SOSC 3656 3.00, AP/SOCI 3652 3.00 (previous course number)
