Examines gift and sacrifice as symbolic practices through close reading of key social themes such as Mauss, Bataille, Derrida and Strathern. Our goal is to understand the significance of gift and sacrifice in the global north/south today. Prerequisite: Students must have successfully completed 84 credits.

No examinations or tests collectively worth more than 20% of the final grade in a course will be given during the final 14 calendar days of classes in a term.
