This seminar focuses on the history of medieval Baghdad from its establishment as the capital of the Islamic Caliphate in 762 to its destruction in 1258 and subsequent decline. Political, economic, social and cultural developments will receive equal treatment. This course is restricted to History Honours majors and minors who have successfully completed at least 84 credits. Prerequisites: AP/HIST 2790 6.00 or AP/HIST 3791 6.00. Course credit exclusions: None. PRIOR TO FALL 2009: Course credit exclusion: AS/HIST 4791 6.00.
