The course addresses Gothic as a popular genre eliciting and managing fear, whether accompanied by anticipation and dread (terror) or confrontation and disgust (horror). Attention is paid to Gothic's 18th-century origins, but the focus is on more recent texts. Course credit exclusion: AP/EN 2300 3.00 (prior to Fall 2011), AP/EN 3170 3.00 Prior to Fall 2011: AP/EN 3170 3.00 was AP/EN 2300 3.00.
