This course examines three main themes: 1) conventional and critical theories of democratic transition in authoritarian societies and political systems; 2) the actions of people power and civil societies in facilitating democratic transition; 3) the role of external agency in these transitions, in particular the exercise of democratic assistance by the developed countries to hasten the collapse of authoritarian rule.


Course Start Up
