This course is designed for students with minimal previous knowledge of spoken and/or written Arabic and focuses on developing proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking the standard Arabic language. By the end of this course, students are expected to be able to read and understand short texts of Arabic and translate them from Arabic into English, and vice versa. Course credit exclusions: AP/ARB 1000 6.00. Open to: Native speakers of Arabic dialects with no formal training in the Modern Standard Arabic, and readers of the Qur'an and Arabic script with no formal training in Arabic. Not open to: Speakers of Modern Standard Arabic. Notes: An authorization slip is required; it can be obtained at the Main Office of Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, after the required written placement test.

Course Websites hosted on York's "eClass" are accessible to students during the first week of the term. It takes two business days from the time of your enrolment to access your course website.
