This course offers a thematic, historical and social introduction of literature from the Spanish-speaking world, studying narrative, poetry, drama and essays from the medieval period to the present. The basic tools and techniques of literary analysis are emphasized and practised in order to prepare students to proceed to more advanced courses in Ibero-American literature and culture. It is taught in English and required for all students who intend to major or minor in Spanish. Prerequisite: None for students outside the major/minor; AP/SP 1000 6.0 for Spanish majors and minors. Co-requisite: None for students outside the major/minor; AP/SP 2000 6.0 or AP/SP 2010 6.00 or AP/SP 2020 6.00 or GL/SP 2000 6.00 for Spanish majors and minors. Course credit exclusions: GL/SP 2100. PRIOR TO FALL 2011: course credit exclusion: GL/SP 1530 6.00.
