From the perspective of Humanities disciplines and popular culture, this course explores gender in the West as both subjective experience and social interactions. It traces how it has changed in response to historical developments and practices. It critically analyzes the categories of gender as modes of social control. These include sexuality, love, marriage, family, race, religious ideas and capitalism. Course credit exclusions: AP/HUMA 1950 6.00, AP/HUMA 1950 9.00 (prior to Fall 2013).
