Explores gender ideologies and their lived social and cultural meanings for women -- and men -- during modern Europe's foundational centuries, 1500-1800. Examines intersections between evolving cultural norms, familial roles, and women's varied activities in spaces outside the domestic household. Also considers gender in relation to major developments of the era -- state-building, capitalism, overseas expansion, religion and the literacy revolution. Course credit exclusions: AP/HIST 3233 6.00.


Course Start Up

Course Websites hosted on York's "eClass" are accessible to students during the first week of the term. It takes two business days from the time of your enrolment to access your course website.
