This seminar examines the laws that govern the performance of work in Canada and the policy debates that shape those laws both historically and in present day. It explores in greater depth legal concepts introduced to students in AP/HRM 3420 3.00 (Employment Law) and AP/HRM 3422 3.00 (Industrial Relations). It explores all three regimes of work law, including the Common Law of Employment, Regulatory Standards, and Collective Bargaining from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Students are challenged to critically examine the arguments that shape the development of work laws and to assess the effectiveness of those laws in achieving their policy objectives.Prerequisites: 66 credits, including AP/HRM 3420 3.00 and AP/HRM 3422 3.00 with a grade of B.
