Calendar Description / Prerequisite / Co-Requisite

This course examines past and present forms of data-based technologies and media, focusing on how datafication can both perpetuate forms of discrimination and inequity, and potentially foster social justice. Students will consider both 'big' and 'small' data practices (including critical or alternative data projects) in corporate, governmental, and community settings, and how they mediate dynamics of social justice and injustice. This course was previously offered as AP/COMN 2510 3.00.


Course Start Up

Course Websites hosted on York's "eClass" are accessible to students during the first week of the term. It takes two business days from the time of your enrolment to access your course website.
