AP/ITEC3710 3.0 A: Information Assurance and Security

Introduces information assurance and security, examines the vulnerabilities of IT infrastructures and describes the fundamental objectives involved in creating and managing information security and security threats faced by enterprises today. Building on the basic principles and strategies of information assurance, the course will describe: risk management; the development of security policies, guidelines, awareness programs, employment practice and policies; legal and ethical issues; IT security auditing; the relationship between policy and security; the role and application of cryptography; the mechanisms used to implement policies; and the methodologies and technologies for assurance, vulnerability analysis, and intrusion detection. Students need to be familiar with distributed and local networks; client/server and Intranet, and Web-based technologies. Prerequisite: AP/ITEC3210 (3.00), AP/ITEC3010 (3.00), AP/ITEC3220 (3.00).
