This course analyzes representations of 20th-century German history in comics produced in Germany, Europe, North America and Japan. Students examine various genres to determine how artists employ comics' special narrative possibilities to recount the past, investigate the workings of memory, and make interventions into national and transnational memory discourses. No German is required.
