This interdisciplinary course looks at nostalgia and melancholy, two widespread and complex states of mind mixing emotion and imagination, moods and memories. We will follow the parallel, cross-cultural histories of melancholy and nostalgia to analyze how they were framed and understood in the fields of science, philosophy, and literature, and how they continue to shape contemporary identity.


Course Start Up

Course Websites hosted on York's "eClass" are accessible to students during the first week of the term. It takes two business days from the time of your enrolment to access your course website.
