Calendar Description / Prerequisite / Co-Requisite

Investigates the role of language in creating and maintaining power asymmetries in society. Various types of discourse are analyzed to determine the means by which participants create and maintain dominance, power and status. Specific topics include: the relationship between linguistic structure and thought, language ideology, political discourse, legal discourse, cross cultural discourse, and classroom discourse.


Course Start Up

Course Websites hosted on York's "eClass" are accessible to students during the first week of the term. It takes two business days from the time of your enrolment to access your course website.
