Examines the early, radical alternative version of Christianity and Judaism based on mystical self-knowledge (gnosis), and the challenge it posed to orthodox views on such issues as authority, the role of women, wisdom and organizational structure. Course credit exclusion: AP/HUMA 3457 6.00. PRIOR TO FALL 2009: Course credit exclusions: AK/HUMA 3605N 3.00 (prior to Summer 2001), AK/HUMA 3457 3.00 and AK/HUMA 3457 6.00.
